If you are hosting your own FTP server at home. I know that you’ve many, many photos to share with family ;-). Your friends may have encountered a warning upon their connection to your server. Something saying the returned address is LAN based. That’s should not the case, as they are connecting to Internet through ISP. The solution is to look closer the “passive mode” settings panel. As named this panel addresses…other stuffs than “passive mode”! :-)
Solution: Help FileZilla Server to retrieve the WAN IP address, from Internet, through a third part web server dedicated to this action. The FileZilla Server analyse returned HTML page then, to extract the WAN IP Address — that allocated by your ISP.
Action:
- Firstly, tick the “Retrieve External IP address from:”.
- Secondly, in the underlying form; type in http://dynupdate.no-ip.com/ip.php.
- Thirdly, tick the “Don’t use external IP for local connections”.
Checking: Why not using the client from FileZilla project to control that? OK. just run “FileZilla”, supply the credentials to connect to the server, and you can see in the top “message” view:
